Watching this (and fearing broken ankles with each loop) I can’t helping thinking about that old quote Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in high heels.

But no, if you watch closely you’ll see she doesn’t even step on the last chair. That means she had to trust that fucker to lift her gently to the ground while he was spinning down onto that chair. That takes major guts. I’d be pissing myself and fearing a broken neck if I were in her place. Kudos to her.

I can’t stop watching this.

#I watched this for too long to not reblog

But watch his shoulder tho….It drops as he realizes she missed the step…like “oh shit, ok gentle”

Actually that shoulder drop is very common in ballroom dancing and has nothing to do with him “realizing she missed the chair.”. Hee knew she wasn’t going to step on it, and she makes no effort to, because the way they are moving there is no space for her to make it to the second chair. He was well aware he would have to hold her steady while he descended and she trusted him to do so, which is also not very astonishing because they were dance partners of a very high caliber. They trusted each other very deeply and didn’t even give a second thought to moves like this even if they were improvised. However, the move in and of itself is amazing, it is a testament to just what amazing dancers they are that they can effortlessly maneuver over furniture. tl;dr the shoulder drop is not significant of someone who is worried about their partner but of someone who has ballroom dancing training and is experienced at dancing with their partner. It is part of the dance.
